Switching to natural deodorant: what really happens in week one

Aluminium-based antiperspirants work by plugging the sweat duct. Natural deodorant does something different — it lets you sweat, and neutralises the bacteria that turn sweat into odour. Because of that difference, the first week can feel unfamiliar.

Days 1–3: you notice the sweat again

Nothing has gone wrong. Your glands are simply doing their job without being blocked. Odour control should already feel solid; it is the damp feeling that takes getting used to.

Days 4–7: the skin settles

Underarm skin rebalances and most people report less irritation than they had with their old stick. Apply to clean, dry skin — two light passes is plenty. More product does not mean more protection.

Make it easier

Shower before you apply, let skin dry fully, and give the balm ten seconds to warm against your body. If you train twice a day, keep a refill in your gym bag rather than over-applying in the morning.

Kit that backs it up

Natural, refillable body care made in the UK — deodorant, anti-chafe and recovery.
